Designing the RF Store
For those of you who don't know, I co-own a shoe brand in Manila. We create leather sandals handcrafted by talented shoemakers.
Funny thing is, when this started, I barely knew anything about shoes. It was my sisters who first brought up the idea. I just knew that I loved dressing up and it would be fun to own something with my sisters that involved fashion. Thus started our online store, Renegade Folk. It was nothing short of amazing. Having your own brand is no joke. It entails so many sacrifices and hard work. All of us had to quit our main jobs to make it what it is now. But quitting my daytime job was a blessing in disguise. It gave me time to do what I really loved.
Eight years later, we decided it was time to finally set up a place where our customers can easily access and try on our shoes. Since our budget was really tight, my sisters and I had to be the ones to design our store. It would help cut a lot of costs. It scared me at first. Not one of us had a background in interior design. Sure, I've had a bunch of graphic design experience and some references but knowing the space was still different, you know? But that's where the creativity happens. Not knowing the rules can sometimes help you break away from constraints that prevent you from doing crazy things.
Well, It turned out to be one of the most fun projects we've done.
